A lot of cannabis growers nowadays are selecting auto-flowering strains for thier grows. These quick growing cannabis strains, from seed to harvest in just two months or so, are perfect at keeping a perpetual harvest going.
Unlike the usual perpetual harvest setups that require seperate grow rooms, auto-flowering cannabis seeds can be grown in the same room because the light cycle does not need to be changed. This makes auto-flowering strains perfect for continuous harvesting.
- Auto Flowering Grow Tips
A continual eighteen hours of light per day is recommended for most auto flowering strains. Switching light cycles down to the usual twelve hours will be detrimental to auto-flowering strains and adversely affect the yield.
If you do not have feminised auto flowering strains the male plants will show themselves within the first 2-3 weeks; about a week earlier than the females. Remove these male plants and simply replace with new cannabis seeds. There is no concern about timings as the light cycle will remain constant.
Auto-flowering strains grow very well in either soil or soil-less systems. Because of thier short height ( These strains usually grow no taller than 2 feet.) they are perfect for scrog type grows and indeed for people with limited spaces to grow in.
For best results it is recommended to plant them straight into the largest pots on thier first transplant (from seedling). Using smaller pots will often result in smaller yields.
After the first couple of weeks growth, you should begin thier vegetitative feeding until they pass into full flower usually between 4-6 weeks when you can step into the flowering nutrients. No need to overfeed these plants, keep it simple. They will only need about 4 weeks of this flowering nutes.
We ‘will’ usually add a root booster/stimulator to these plants (we use bio rhizotonic) they have shown to increase growth and yields in most of the autos we have grown. Flush as normal.
- Auto Flowering Growth Patterns
Auto-flowering cannabis strains mainly grow into main cola. (Hence the suitability for scrog/sog ) Though with a lot of light we have had them produce fair side branching also. The buds, dependant of course of the quality of the breeder, are usually nice and compact. Thick pistils with orangey colours.
Yield, quality and height are always dependent on the usual factors; genetics and environment. They can be grown in tiny pots on a windowsill and grow just a few inches and yield a couple grammes with no side branching at all or; or they can be grown in a 25 litre pot under good conditions and turn into a nice two-foot wide 2oz plant.
There are many strains of auto-flowering seeds available nowadays, some are better than others of course and produce a great taste and a good high. The original Lowryder strains are very popular and we have a select few of Dinafems latest auto flowering seeds available to check out in our online grow shop.
