Marijuana, often called cannabis or marihuana, is considered as one of the most popular types of recreational drugs used today. It includes any number of preparations of the marijuana plant intended for human consumption as a drug, the most common of which is the natural herbal form (the buds) or its derivatives such as hash. The Effects of Marijuana
According to a number of studies across the world, marijuana has been known to cause psychoactive and physiological effects when used. Only about 5 micrograms per pound of human bodyweight of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is needed to have a noticeable psychoactive effect. Along with a subjective change in perception, the most common short-term physical and neurological effects include increased heart rate, lowered blood pressure, impairment to concentration and short-term working memory.
While many drugs clearly fall into the category of either stimulant, depressant, hallucinogen, or antipsychotic, marijuana, containing both THC and CBD, has been cited by many doctors to exhibit a mix of all properties, leaning slightly towards hallucinogen properties due to THC being the dominant active ingredient.
It is Claimed that Trying Marijuana Increases the Probability that Users will Eventually use Harder Drugs!
According to specialists of different cannabis studies into recreational use, the main reason for the theory is that people, upon trying marijuana for the first time and not finding it dangerous, are then tempted to try other, harder drugs. In such a scenario, a new user of marijuana who feels there is a difference between drug information given out by government and their own actual experience of using will apply this distrust to public information about other, more powerful drugs.
Another theory is that while marijuana is not as harmful or addictive as other drugs, a gateway effect may be detected as a result of the “common factors” involved with using any illegal drug. Because of its illegal status, marijuana users are more likely to be in situations which allow them to become acquainted with people who use and sell other illegal drugs.
This hypothesis has been one of the central pillars of anti-marijuana lawmakers in many countries over the last century, though the validity and facts about these statements are highly debated nowadays and looked upon generally as propoganda by most intelligent adults.
