Cooking with Cannabis

I have a very sweet tooth!

I have always had a sweet tooth, for many years, before I wisened up I always ate total junk before ‘real food’ so it was inevitable that one of the more satisfying methods of getting CBD or THC into my body was with cooking. This section will provide information about cooking with cannabis; brownies, cakes, cookies, butter and various home-made medibles recipes.

To me, most strains of cannabis, particularly hash, can provide wonderful tasting food. The culinary uses of cannabis are practically endless, but there are a few pointers I would like to share with you:

Storing and using cannabutter is an excellent way to introduce more THC into your diet without drastically altering the original recipe’s flavour.

If you are using low-grade leaves or other sour-tasting material, it is preferable to soak it overnight in water to dissolve some nasty compounds.

Do not use lemony, skunky or other strong strains in sweet dessert recipes. They are much better suited for appetizers, main and side dishes.

Do not use sweet and fruity strains in recipes that lack any other similarly sweet ingredients or your final results will taste dramatically different.

Do not overdose your recipes. Try not to dramatically change the balance of the listed ingredients. Two grams of good pot per serving is plenty.

Try to avoid high heat levels or long extended periods of cooking after you add your “secret ingredient”. This will help maintain flavour and potency.

Cannabutter:

No cookbook would be complete without the main ingredients and many people cooking with cannabis or hemp use a butter made specifically for use in cannabis cooking.

Most cannabis-related recipes call for the making of a certain quantity of cannabis butter, which is then used as a replacement for standard butter in a cooking situation. To prepare the pot for eating it has to be heated in some way. It won’t work if the flower is eaten without preparation, because the digestive system is unable to digest THC directly.

When cooking with hemp or cannabis, it is very important to use fat (oil, butter, milk) because cannabinoids are fat-soluble and not water-soluble. It is therefore impossible to get high from hemp tea, for example, without adding some milk.

So here you are, the easiest way to make cannabutter:

Ingredients

1 lb. of butter (not margarine!)
1 ounce of finely ground marijuana

Method

Melt the butter in a saucepan until it’s simmering.

Add the flower material and let simmer for 30 minutes or so until the butter has turned green from the marijuana.

Pour butter through a strainer to remove all the pieces of marijuana.

Chill until solid
